So here we are, almost 2 full months into the new year, and I can already say it's going to be better than 2010. Why's that? Well, for one, I might actually earn some money this year. More on that in a second.
The other major step I've taken is volunteering at our local food bank. For years I've felt that I needed to "give something back;" I've greatly benefited from social programs and, yes, socialized medicine. I've also, in recent years, become increasingly aware of just how privileged an upbringing I had, and have become vastly more interested in issues of social justice. I know I'll never be able to change the world, but I figure I can at least do my part to make my community somewhat better for those who've had a far more difficult go of it than myself.
Also -- don't laugh -- I've decided to try my hand at modeling/acting. I recently had some professional portfolio shots taken and will be represented by a local talent firm. Now, I have *no* idea how this is going to work out, or if it's going to work out at all -- I accept that I may well have wasted my money on a foolish lark. However, my eyes are open and I'm going to pursue it to the best of my ability, come whatever may. We shall see.
